Windermere Security Overview:
Security patrol officers are staffed by Seattle’s Finest, an organization we have worked with for many years. We have a core group of 6 officers (off-duty and retired) working consistently in our neighborhood. All wear either SPD or Seattle's Finest police uniform. They drive unmarked cars, and their shifts are at night, as this aligns to when we have experienced crime in our neighborhood. Key communication tools between our community and security officers are the Home Check Request and Security Incident Report forms. Please use these forms as they provide all information needed and streamline communication to both our Security Patrol team and the Windermere Board Security Chair.

In addition to the Windermere Security patrol, neighbors are key to our collective neighborhood safety. You are our first and best line of defense against crime and vandalism. Here are some suggestions that will help keep your home and neighborhood safe:
- Make sure doors are locked, even while home during the day.
- Make sure garage doors are not left open.
- Turn on your alarm system when leaving your home (even if only planning to be gone a short time), and at night when you are home. Make sure all doors and windows are locked.
- Install good outdoor lighting on timers or use motion sensor lighting.
- If you are away from home for an extended period of time use interior lighting on timers, and have newspapers, mail and packages picked up.
- Form a Block Watch with a text or email chain of neighbors on your block/or immediately around your home. Alert the group when you will be out of town to keep an eye on your home, pick up any packages delivered to front door etc.
- Install outdoor cameras to monitor/capture activity on areas not visible from inside home.
- Outdoor lighting and security cameras particularly important for construction job sites which can be targets for tool theft and home break-ins.
- Dues paying members can request that the Windermere Security patrol check on your home while you are out of town/on vacation. Request online using the Home Check Request form.
